Influence -- Motivational Minute (13_54)

Quote of the day:

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” Anne Frank

Consider:

Every person has his or her own destiny to fulfill. Some people realize what their purpose is at a young age and others don't know what it is until later in life, however, we will all make a difference in some way to someone by the time our life is over.

It is up to you to decide if you are going to make a positive or negative difference.

Write down three things in your life that you feel will make some kind of difference in the world. They can be things that will influence all of humanity or even just one person. Either way is fine, but once you know the three things determined, take one step toward each this week!

Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana

Keep Hanging On -- Motivational Minute (13_53)

Quote of the day:

“All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles have strengthened me… You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.” -- Walt Disney

Consider:

When you hit bottom and you feel like you are being stepped on, when dreams give way to disappointment, when all you've worked so hard for goes to pieces, when life no longer holds any purpose or promise, you are tempted to despair.

That's when you must remember that you were created for a purpose, and that purpose isn't a single, one-time thing; it's multifaceted and complex. As long as you live, there will be something more you can accomplish—something you are meant to accomplish—and there is always more to get out of life.

The end of one dream doesn't mean the end of all dreams. Just as the seasons come and go in their cycle, periods of success or setback, fulfillment or disappointment, and emotional highs and lows come and go. You may be in the depths of despair now, but it won't last forever. The best may be just around the corner, a new season of fruitfulness and fulfillment, but you'll never know if you stop were you are.

If this sounds like you. HANG IN THERE, a change for the better is coming.

Kindness -- Motivational Minute (13_52)

Quote of the day:

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” — Dr. Leo Buscaglia

Consider:

The story of one of the great presidents of Harvard College, Charles William Eliot, is worth recalling. Born with a serious facial disfigurement, he discovered as a young man that nothing could be done about it, and he must go through life with his mark. It is related that when his mother brought to him that tragic truth, it was indeed "the dark hour of his soul."

His mother told him, "My son, it is not possible for you to get rid of this handicap. We have consulted the best surgeons, and they say that nothing can be done. But it is possible for you, with God's help, to grow a mind and soul so big that people will forget to look at your face." And so he did, all because of a little encouragement.

In marriage, with children, at work, in any association—an ounce of encouragement, of sincere appreciation of some act or attribute, can do more than a ton of fault-finding. If we look for the good in others, in even the most unlikely, unlikable, and incapable person, we can always find something to commend and encourage them about.  Even a little bit of encouragement can go a long way. Commendation motivates people to want to keep doing better.

Reach out and give a little support and appreciation to those around you today—and you’ll be shaping the world of tomorrow.

Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana

Gratitude -- Motivational Minute (13_51)

Quote of the day:

“It is not good for all our wishes to be filled; through sickness we recognize the value of health; through evil, the value of good; through hunger, the value of food; through exertion, the value of rest.” -- Greek saying

Consider:

Why endure another sleepless night? Why suffer from anxiety when you can have peace of mind? Even in the bleakest circumstances, you can have amazing peace that will relieve the mental and physical stress caused by worry and fear.

Peace comes to your heart when you turn your eyes from your troubles and toward the things that are right in your life. Stop worrying and start giving thanks.

Find one thing to be thankful for—one special thing in the past—and be grateful for that. Or think of the worst thing that's ever happened to you and the fact that you're still here, and turn that thought into a gratitude affirmation.

The more you are thankful for, the more peace will fill your heart.

Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana

Enjoying the Moment -- Motivational Minute (13_50)

Quote of the day:

"Once we discover how to appreciate the timeless values in our daily experiences, we can enjoy the best things in life." Harry Hepner

Consider:

Some of the best things in life don't cost money to enjoy. These things include our health, friends and family. However, sometimes we get so focused on money and materialistic things that these "hidden" gems are often overlooked.

Think about your life, then make a list of the things that are the most important to you. Chances are that you'll find that the "most important" things in your life are not tangible items and that you are in fact a wealthy person. You can then begin to truly “enjoy the best things in life and appreciate the timeless values of our daily experiences.”

Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana

Adversity -- Motivational Minute (13_49)

Quote of the day:

“Trials, temptations, disappointmentsall these are helps instead of hindrances, if one uses them rightly. They not only test the fiber of a character, but strengthen it. Every conquered temptation represents a new fund of moral energy. Every trial endured and weathered in the right spirit makes a soul nobler and stronger than it was before.” James Buckham

Consider:

No one benefits much from easy times. Such times are enjoyable and everyone wishes they could last forever, but they don't contribute much to one's character. So when troubles come into your life, don't be discouraged or resentful. Instead, know that there is a plan and a reason that is crafting you into a thing of beauty.

It is hard to imagine this when you are a work in progress. But if you can endure the crafting process, when the work is done, you will be pleased with the result—a masterpiece, the thing of beauty that is your life.

Power of Thoughts -- Motivational Minute (13_48)

Quote of the day:

“As you think, so shall you become.” Bruce Lee

Consider:

I came upon this interesting information about Theodore Roosevelt that illustrates the above quote.

Once he was the most timorous of men; by practicing self-assurance, he became one of the boldest; he was the trust-busting, audience-swaying, Big-Stick-wielding President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt.

"Having been a rather sickly and awkward boy," he confesses in his autobiography, "I was, as a young man, at the first both nervous and distrustful of my powers. I had to train myself painfully and laboriously not merely as regards my body but as regards my soul and spirit."

Fortunately, he has disclosed how he achieved the transformation. "When a boy," he wrote, "I read a passage in one of Marryat's books [Frederik Marryat, British naval officer and writer (1792-1848)] which always impressed me. In this passage, the captain of some small British man-of-war is explaining to the hero how to acquire the quality of fearlessness. He says that at the outset almost every man is frightened when he goes into action, but that the course to follow is for the man to keep such a grip on himself that he can act just as if he were not frightened. After this is kept up long enough, it changes from pretense to reality, and the man does in very fact become fearless by sheer dint of practicing fearlessness when he does not feel it.

"This was the theory upon which I went. There were all kinds of things of which I was afraid at first, ranging from grizzly bears to "mean" horses and gunfighters; but by acting as if I were not afraid I gradually ceased to be afraid. Most men can have the same experience if they choose."

You can put this practice into action regarding any emotion. By acting as if you are happy you will become happy. By acting as if you are successful you will become successful. By acting as if you are (fill in the blank) you will become (fill in the blank). The choice is yours.

Wishing you all the best,

Kindness -- Motivational Minute (13_47)

Quote of the day:

“Opportunities are like sunrises—if you wait too long, you miss them.” William Arthur Ward

Consider:

The smallest good deed is better than the grandest intention. Unfortunately most of us fail too often to express words of love, appreciation, comfort and encouragement to those around us.

If you were given five minutes warning before sudden death, what would you do with that five minutes? I dare say you would be occupied trying to call someone who matters in your life, to tell them you loved them, appreciated them or admired them.

If you love someone, tell them so. If you're thankful for something, say so. Don’t wait, as the opportunity may not come again. Chances are, those in your life are yearning for some kind word of love and encouragement. Don’t miss an opportunity to do even the smallest good deed even for a stranger if the opportunity to do a nice thing for them arises.

Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana

Synchronicity -- Motivational Minute (13_46)

Quote of the day:

“A thousand unseen helping hands,” Joseph Campbell calls these breaks. I call them synchronicity.” – Julia Cameron

Consider:

If you start to notice when something happens that makes your life easier, when something you need magically appears, or when you receive an act of kindness from a stranger, this is what is called synchronicity, answer to prayer, coincidences, miracles, serendipity, confirmations, to name a few.

I have found that these synchronicities are important and worthy to take note of, or write about in your journal. By writing these experiences down you will start to notice them more and the clues they are giving you to guide your journey. Eventually you may even come to believe in the magic of synchronicity and begin to expect seeing them in your life at every turn as confirmations that you are on the right track.

During this next week pay close attention to the coincidences that occur in your life.

Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana

Gratitude -- Motivational Minute (13_45)

Quote of the day:

“The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings.” -- Eric Hoffer

Consider:

The path to victory and miracles comes through praise, thankfulness, gratefulness, gratitude, or whatever you want to call it. No matter what you call it, by practicing it you will get the same results, because this is a law of the spirit.

Gratitude will lift your own spirit. As you dwell on the good and speak of the good, then good surrounds you. Even if you are thankful when you don't feel like it, it lifts you up and soon you will feel like it. Having a grateful attitude is always blessed and rewarded.

And the big bonus is--having a thankful attitude helps those around you. When you demonstrate your thankfulness, it lifts other’s spirits, encourages them and engenders positiveness.

Before going to bed think of at least five things you are thankful for. Continue this every night with a different five things each time and you will be amazed at how your life will change.

Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana
