Influence -- Motivational Minute (13_035)

Quote of the day:

"Blessed is the  of one true, loving human soul on another." George Eliot

Consider:

Whether you realize it or not, your life will make an impression on a lot of people before you die.

This impression may be positive or negative. Therefore, it is up to you to decide the kind of difference you want to make in the lives of those you touch. Will you be a positive or a negative influence? Will you build up or tear down? Will you be loving and encouraging or critical and condemning? Will you be a burden or a blessing to others?

If you want to be a force for good, think about the people in your life and write down the name of one person with whom you want to make a positive difference. Then create a plan of action regarding how you are going to make that difference and get started today!

Gratitude -- Motivational Minute (13_034)

Quote of the day:

“It is not good for all our wishes to be filled; through sickness we recognize the value of health; through evil, the value of good; through hunger, the value of food; through exertion, the value of rest.” Greek saying

Consider:

Even the bleakest of circumstances can be turned into thanksgiving—when you are able to “give thanks” in the toughest of times, that is when your difficulties take on meaning. Peace comes to your heart when you turn your eyes away from your troubles and toward the things that are right in your life.

Try to be thankful for your hardships by thinking of positive aspects about your difficulty. For example, say to yourself, “I am thankful for this sickness as it shows me the value of health. I’m thankful that I’m not always sick. I’m thankful for the health that I do have. I’m thankful that my health is not as bad as it could be. I am thankful that I can grow in character because of this difficulty.”

It’s much like playing The Glad Game, that is, to see the good and the positive in every seeming difficult situation. Try it and see what it does for you.

Wishing you all the best,

Compliments

Motivational Minute (13_033)

Quote of the day:

“The world is starving for appreciation. It is hungry for compliments. But somebody must start the ball rolling by speaking first and saying a nice thing to his companion.” -- George W. Crane

Consider:

This is a great quote, but how can you go about putting it into practice?

Possibly you could consider doing the same experiment that Mr. Crane had his students do in one of his courses. The students were to pay an honest compliment every day to three different people. They could increase that number if they wished, but to qualify for a class grade, they had to compliment at least three people every day for thirty days. At the end of the thirty day experiment they had to write a paper on the changes and altered outlook on life in themselves and the people they had been complimenting.

Some of Crane’s students resisted this assignment saying they wouldn’t know what to say, or that it was dishonest. However, if you speak an honest statement of praise for some trait or merit that deserves commendation then it is not dishonest, even if you don’t particularly bond with the person. You are merely stating a fact. At the same time you may find that nobody is entirely devoid of merit or virtue.

In addition, your kind words may change someone’s day in a much more profound way than you expect. You never know when your casual compliment may come at a critical point when that person is just about to throw in the towel.

Why not start your own experiment today and see what the outcome is? I’d be interested in what you discover. Feel free to leave a comment or write me at info@actionvisioncoaching.com and share your findings

The Wounded Oyster

Motivational Minute (13_32)

Quote of the day:

“It is the wounded oyster that mends its shell with pearl.” Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Consider:

Did you know that when an oyster gets a grain of sand in its shell and can’t get it out it secretes a substance that covers it. Year after year the oyster adds more layers to cover its irritation, until at last it has produced a beautiful, lustrous pearl of great value.

Our problems are like that grain of sand. They bother us, and sometimes we wonder why we have to suffer the irritation and inconvenience they can be. But like the oyster we can turn our wounds and adversities into precious pearls of inner strength, and they become an inspiration to others. For years pearls have been used as a metaphor for something very rare, fine, admirable, and valuable.

What wounds in your life do you need to mend and turn into pearls?

Priorities

Motivational Minute (13_031)

Quote of the day:

“Learn how to separate the majors and the minors. A lot of people don't do well simply because they major in minor things.” — Jim Rohn

Consider:

There's so much that you need to do each day, so much that you want to do, and so much that others expect of you. You feel pulled in all directions, pressure, tension anxiety—will it ever stop?

It won't stop on its own, but you can break the cycle and take control. You don't have to remain entangled in the unending struggle to do more and have more. Life doesn't have to be a daily crisis. You don't have to be the prisoner of unrealistic expectations.

The root of the problem is simple: You try to do too much, more than is humanly possible, and you put your mind, body, and spirit under pressure they were never meant to handle. It's time to reassess.

Determine what things mean the most to you—your primary long-term goals and responsibilities, and what things are essential to achieve those objectives. Channel your energies into those things, and let go of the rest. Once you've done this, the pressures that once seemed unbearable will start to dissipate.

Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana

Quiet Time

Motivational Minute (13_30)

Quote of the day:

“The real man smiles in trouble, gathers strength from distress, and grows brave by reflection.” —Thomas Paine

Consider:
How true! It is very important to take time to reflect and think but not to worry or fret. The kind of reflection that I’m talking about is taking time to feed the inner you. Just as your body needs to be fed, your spirit needs food too, and the best food for your soul is positive, uplifting, motivating, praiseful words. I have found that by taking time out each morning to read, reflect and/or journal has helped my life tremendously.
Try setting aside at least 20 minutes each day for inspirational reading, reflecting, and writing. For some, it may be difficult to reserve this time; if this is the case with you, try starting with only five minutes reading the Motivational Minutes and thinking about the quote and commentary. If you have more time, write a little about your own conclusions, as this will help you to put your thoughts into action. If you aren’t able to fit this in daily, then try for three days each week and build up from there. Whatever you decide, it will be easier to follow through if you establish a definite time slot in your day and make this quiet reflection time part of your routine.

Wishing you all the best,

Positive Influences

(Motivational Minute 13_029)

Quote of the day:

"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops." Henry Brooks Adams

Consider:

As we all know, teachers make lasting impressions on the students they teach. Most of us have heard of amazing stories of changed lives just because one teacher had faith in their student and instilled in them the desire and courage to reach their full potential.

But what we may not stop to realize,  is that we are all teachers in one way or the other. Everyone has influence on others either for good or for bad.

You can choose to have a positive influence on others.  If this is your intent, it is important to be mindful of your words and actions, as you never know whose life you will affect. Make a point to regularly say positive, encouraging and uplifting statements to those you come in contact with.

Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana
