Motivational Minute (041)

From Coach Dana Bosley at http://www.actionvisioncoaching.com/

Quote of the day.

You can choose either to be a skeptic or a believer. Birds were meant to fly. Flowers were meant to bloom. Humans were designed to believe in beauty, in love, in truth, in God. -- Dr. Robert H. Schuller

Consider:

Happiness starts on the inside. When faced with problems and difficulties it is our inner man that determines how we’ll handle the situation. We can look at troubles in a positive way and know that there is a purpose and a plan behind that problem, or we can choose the pessimist route and think that our life no longer has any meaning.

The next time you are faced with a  negative situation, take a positive stance, even though the situation looks dark at the moment, think of all the good that can come of it, and you will come through it stronger in the end.

Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana

Quote of the day:

“Never let a problem to be solved, become more important than the person to be loved.” -- Barbara Johnson

Consider:

How many times do we take those dearest to our hearts for granted, and give priority instead to solving the problem at hand? Shouldn’t it be the other way around?  Wouldn’t it be better to give our attention and priority to the ones we love and realize that there will always be obstacles to deal with? In addition, love gives us purpose and strength to overcome our obstacles and problems.

Reflect on your track record regarding problem solving in your life. When faced with difficulties, do you keep a cool head about you? Do you show the ones you love how much you value them? Do you draw strength from loving and being loved in return? Or do you shut others out of your life while your problems become the most important part of your day?  Redefine your priorities according.

Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana

Quote of the day:

“In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: It goes on.” --Robert Frost

Consider:

Sometimes we go through difficult times that try our souls, but in spite of everything, and no matter the difficulty, life goes on. Not only does life go on, but most often renewal or new beginnings come from difficulty! Nature is a sample of this. Even in the most arid places you can find life being born, like a tiny plant sprouting forth. We have the same ability, to keep going forward, to grow and find strength and hope again!

Are you going through a difficult time in your life and you can’t see the way out? Even if nothing else seems to work and nothing else helps, have faith and remember that life will go on, that you have it in you to be happy and smile again, to feel truly hopeful and to come out better by the experience!

Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana

Quote of the day:

“Let us give something to each person we meet: joy, courage, hope, assurance, or philosophy, wisdom, a vision for the future. Let us always give something.” -- Daisaku Ikeda

Consider:

No matter how little we possess in material things, we can always give something. Some of the most prevalent human needs are met through gifts that cannot be wrapped. When we show kindness and consideration to others, we cannot help but benefit ourselves.

Stop to think about the people that cross your path each day. Think about what you can do to show kindness to each one. You’ll be amazed how much you have to give. Make a habit of giving something to every person you meet. It will change your day and transform your life!

Wishing you all the best,

Quote of the day:

“Each day is a new canvas to paint upon. Make sure your picture is full of life and happiness, and at the end of the day you don't look at it and wish you had painted something different.” – Author Unknown

Consider:

This quote reminds us how important it is to keep check on our attitudes. We need to train ourselves into forming the habit of choosing to take on a positive attitude as opposed to a negative one. Just as a painter has the choice to paint a beautiful picture, so can we choose how we will “paint” our days—with life, happiness, love and positiveness, or with negativity, criticism, lack of enthusiasm and doubtfulness.

Take a minute or two and think about how you want to paint your day—will you choose vivid and cheerful colors, or gloomy grayish tones?

I wish you all the best,

Quote of the day:

“The roots of true achievement lie in the will to become the best that you can become.” –Harold Taylor

Consider:
It is a great feeling when we go all out to be the best we can be at what we are doing.  It doesn’t matter if our job at the moment is the CEO of a big company, or mopping the floor. If you always try for becoming the best that you can become at whatever you are doing, you can be certain that you will find success and progress in your life.
Never settle for giving less than you can in anything you do. Doing something better might mean working a little harder, but you’ll go to bed at night with the satisfaction of knowing that the effort you made to accomplish the task was well worth the effort. Think about your life, ask yourself if you are giving your best shot to being the best you can become.
Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana

Motivational Minute (035)

Quote of the day:
“Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” –Theodore Roosevelt
Consider:

If you have tried and failed at something at least it means you have tried. You have a goal and a purpose. You may not hit target every time, but you will eventually have success because you are doing something. Those that don’t try for fear of failure are never defeated, but they never win either.

Sometimes the things we most want seem to come with the most risk—the risk of rejection, disappointment, or failure. But if you play it safe, and never let your desire see the light of day, you often risk something even greater--the opportunity to experience the joy that comes from expressing your unique talents and gifts. And worse, by not taking the risk, you can be left with a haunting inner voice that will forever sing the song of "if I only had." Consider taking the risk. It is better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all.

Wishing you all the best,

Quote of the day:

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and I could say, "I used everything that you gave me." – Erma Bombeck

Consider:

Life is a precious gift. In the course of our busy day-to-day living it is easy to lose sight of just how unique each day and every moment of life is.  You can fill every minute of the day with as much wonder, exploration, learning and joy as you want if you’ll make the choice to utilize your talents to the maximum degree. Everyone has hidden potential lying within. It is up to each one of us to use and develop our potential for good.

When you come to the end of your road, do you want to be able to say, ‘I used everything’?  Take some time to determine if you are working towards using your gifts and talents as much as you should be. If you’re not, ask yourself what is holding you back, then do something about it, start this week by taking one positive step, even if it seems a small step, towards your goal.

I wish you all the best,

Quote of the day:

"The truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do. The hard part is doing it." --Norman Schwarzkopf

Consider:

In any given situation, when you allow the voice of the higher wisdom that resides within to guide you, it is not past finding out what the right thing to do is. However, the more difficult choice remains is whether or not you will take action and do it.

Do you have specific fears or worries that are holding you back from making the correct choice? Take a moment to acknowledge your fears then assess how you can take positive steps to hit them head-on and move past them. This single step takes courage, but as you determine to do it, you will find strength to carry on.

I wish you all the best,

Coach Dana

Motivational Minute (032)

Quote of the day

"Don't just dream about grandiose acts of doing good. Every day do small ones that add up over time to positive patterns." --Marian Wright Edelman

Consider:

At the end of your life, what do you want to be remembered for? Periodically asking yourself this question helps you stay focused on the end goal and can aid you in making the right daily decisions that will lead you there. Each day can be a new opportunity to make incremental steps of progress which will lead you towards your desired aspirations.

Think about what you can do today to put your energy towards positive actions that will help bring you closer to your dreams. Your lifelong habits are built on daily choices you make.

I wish you all the best,

Quote of the day:

Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.”  --Denis Waitley

Consider:

When we have made a mistake or failed at something, the image of our supposed failure often keeps replaying in our minds. It’s not always easy to get past our error and make peace with ourselves, but it is well worth the effort to try.  One way to arrive at this desired peace is to do like Mary Kay Ash said, “For every failure, there’s an alternative course of action. You just have to find it. When you come to a roadblock, take a detour.”

When your mind is tempted to replay thoughts of failure over and over, try turning those thoughts around. You can train your thoughts to take a positive stance over a negative one by translating “failure” into “teacher”, or to “delay”, or “detour”, or “possibility for change”, or to “the satisfaction of knowing at least you tried”.  You’ll be surprised how putting this simple advice into practice will turn a would-be disaster into a positive experience. Try it. You’ll come out all the better for it in the end.

Wishing you all the best,

Coach Dana

Motivational Minute (030)

Quote of the day.

“Often we allow ourselves to be upset by small things we should despise and forget. We lose many irreplaceable hours brooding over grievances that, in a year's time, will be forgotten by us and by everybody. No, let us devote our life to worthwhile actions and feelings, to great thoughts, real affections and enduring undertakings.” --Andre Maurois

Consider:

It’s so easy to fall into the habit of focusing on the negative,  and those who do, most often find that their lives are not as happy as they could be. This is why it’s well worth our while to make a habit of focusing on the positive things of life; on the loving actions from those that are around us; on the blessings that come into our lives each day that we so often take for granted.

If you find yourself focusing on the negative, write down a list of your complaints. Then make another list of the positive things that you have in your life right now, even the ones that are easier to take for granted, because we always have them, such as good health and our family and loved ones. I think that soon you will forget the first list and realize it was not worth your time.

Quote of the day.

“People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered. Love them anyway.
If you do good, people may accuse you of selfish motives. Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you may win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Honesty and transparency make you vulnerable. Be honest and transparent anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.
People who really want help may attack you if you help them. Help them anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you may get hurt. Give the world your best anyway.”
                                                                                                                                --Mother Teresa

Consider:

If we want a life worth living, a life with purpose and happiness and freedom, we must make every effort to do what we feel in our hearts to be right, no matter what others do.

Do your best, no matter what others think or what they are doing. Your life will truly feel richer!

Quote of the day.

“Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.” --Groucho Marx

Consider:

We outline a good life according the attitudes we choose to have. Our attitudes affect our lives and our happiness. If we want to be happy, we must make a conscious decision that we are going to be happy and then do our best to have a positive outlook on life. This way, we can fully enjoy life, no matter what circumstances may come our way.

Are you tired of having your emotions being affected by the circumstances in your day? Choose to be happy, hopeful and positive, no matter what is going on around you. Your positive outlook will help you rise above petty negative emotions, and true happiness will find you.

Be happy,

Quote of the day:

If you do not let your heart grow hard, if you prove your friendliness toward your fellow people, they will answer you with affection. They will send you friendly thoughts. The more people you can help, the more positive thoughts you will receive. That people act kindly toward you is worth more than wealth.” –Henry Old Coyote

Consider:

Kindness inherits kind thoughts. It is as simple as the fact that what you sow, you reap. When you are kind, it starts a ripple effect that enhances your life and fills you up with happiness and love that cannot be bought for all the money in the world. Don’t let opportunities to be kind to someone pass you by.
Look for ways to show acts of kindness or support for others in some way.  Such as  helping a friend who is going through a divorce, caring for an elderly person, coaching your child’s sports team or volunteering in your community. What other ideas can you come up with of how to spread a little kindness today?

Quote of the day:

“Adversity is like a strong wind.  It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are.”  --Arthur Golden

Consider:

When adversity touches our lives, we tend to see it as something negative. However, it can be a blessing in disguise. Through difficult times, we come to recognize and appreciate the things that have true value in our lives. Just as a tree sheds old leaves when a strong wind shakes its branches, we can shake off old thought patterns and habits when adversity touches us.

Think about a time when you were going through difficulties in your life. How did it affect you? When the winds of adversity slowed down, did you feel stronger and changed for the better?

Quote of the day:

“The good life is not measured by material wealth or possessions. The good life is an attitude, an act, an idea, a discovery, a search. The good life comes from a lifestyle that is so fully developed--regardless of your bank account--that provides you with a constant sense of joy in living.” –Jim Rohn

Consider:

There is a tendency to see wealth or possessions as the ideal requirements for a good life, when in reality, a good life is achieved with much more than just money. A good life comes with having the right attitude towards life, living it as you would an adventure; being excited about learning; loving and being loved; caring and giving to others and enjoying simple moments such as stopping to enjoy a beautiful view, a baby’s smile, an engaging conversation, or a moment of quiet.

Take a few moments to think about other simple pleasures in life that bring you satisfaction, then take time out each day to enjoy them.

“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive—to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.” –Marcus Aurelius

Consider:

We often take for granted these essentials of life, forgetting that they are free gifts given to us. If we think about these privileges first thing in the morning as we prepare for our day, we will realize that we have a lot to be thankful for and this will help you to face your day on a positive note.

If you are feeling discouraged and like things just aren’t going right for you, think of the blessings you do have and how you would feel if you didn’t have them. Like the anecdote about the man who complained that he didn’t have shoes, until he met a man that had no feet; counting your blessings will help you to recognize that even though there are difficulties to go through in life, there is also many things to be thankful for!

“Each day we make deposits in the memory banks of our children."  – Charles Swindoll

Consider:

You’ve heard the old saying that it’s never too late to do the right thing. This certainly applies to parents and how we act and react to our children.  All parents make mistakes from time to time; it is when we continue to make the same mistakes again and again that we begin to realize certain habits don’t serve us, or our children, well. We only have one opportunity to raise our children with love and positive encouragement, and learning to do this takes a tremendous amount of wisdom, understanding, patience and a great deal of love.

Are you instilling important values in your children that will help them along the road of their life? Try making a push this month to give your children more hugs, to show them more patience, to talk to them about their problems and the challenges they face, to show them you care. Deposit into their memory bank through tangible loving actions the greatest gift of all--love.

“There are no language barriers when you are smiling." – Allen Klein

Consider:

There are only a few languages that transcend barriers of country and culture; music and art are two that come to mind. And there is another significant one--that is the language of a smile. The simple act of smiling can set another at ease, break down barriers or dissipate a potential argument.  A smile nearly always has a positive effect. A smile can reach the hardest heart and bring positive effects. A simple smile can not only brighten someone’s day, it can in fact, change a life.

Do you smile throughout your day? If not, try this fun challenge in the week ahead:  Start smiling!  Share a smile with your children or with other loved ones, but don’t stop there. Smile at others as you walk down the street, in your workplace, when shopping, or while dining out. Take note of the reactions you receive. Learn to make smiling a habit and discover what joy it brings not only to your life, but to others.

Quote of the day:

“Why not go out on a limb? Isn’t that where the fruit is?" – Frank Scully

Consider:

Moving beyond our own personal limiting beliefs and fears is not always easy. When standing at the threshold of our limitations often our first reaction is to hesitate, even shy away from any attempt of launching out into the unknown, the difficult, or anything that would stretch us beyond our comfort zones. Our fear seems to immediately kick-in and we are tempted to listen to the inner negative voice above the calmer, steadier voice of faith and confidence.

As you’re heading towards your goal, if fear comes knocking at your door, stop a moment and take stock of your situation. Is your goal consistent with the voice of truth within you? Do you have inner peace knowing the goals you’re shooting for are what you’re supposed to do? If the answer is yes, then trust that you will be given guidance at the exact time and hour you need it; then go ahead and climb out on that limb, trust, and expect success.

“If you can’t forgive and forget, pick one." – Robert Brault

Consider:

Actress and author Carrie Fisher said, “Resentment is the poison you swallow hoping the other person will die.” Making the conscious and loving choice of choosing to forgive and forget makes you a wiser and happier person in the long run. Is the wrong that has been done to you worth a lifetime of being poisoned?

Are you holding on to resentment?  Do you feel the negative poison of bitterness fomenting in your heart?  Sit still in a quiet, peaceful place. In a relaxed position either sitting or laying down, take a long, deep breath in the following manner:  Slowly inhale through your nose, drawing the air deep into your belly, not your chest. As you inhale, feel your stomach expand with your hand.  Then slowly exhale through pursed lips in order to regulate the release of air.  Rest.  Repeat this process three or four times, after each breath say a loud, “I forgive you _________” (fill in the blank).  Feel the anger and resentment moving out of you, making the world a much brighter place for your future.

“We never question whether something is fair when it’s good. But when something bad happens, the first thing we say is, “This isn’t fair." – Rabbi Roy Walter

Consider:

Learning to be thankful and filled with gratitude for everything that comes into our lives can be a lifetime challenge. It’s so easy to be cruising on the top of the world when everything is going well. But how many of us can maintain that same joy and happiness when seemingly bad things begin to happen in our lives or in the lives of those we love?

Here is a helpful exercise worthy of your time: Write down the three most difficult things you are currently experiencing in your life. Then under each one write something about that difficulty that you can be thankful for, highlighting the positive things you are in the process of learning through each experience. This process aids us in being able to see that all things that come into our life can bring good results if we look for them.

“Life is either daring adventure or nothing.” – Helen Keller

Consider:

What is holding you back from living your life as a daring adventure? Do you have fears that need to be conquered? Have you accepted mediocrity as your fate as opposed to living by the old adage, “nothing ventured, nothing gained”?  If so, take a few moments to ask yourself if it’s time for you to take life by the reins, make some positive steps towards conquering your fears, and starting living life to the full.

Think about what you want to accomplish, and then go after it. Ask yourself if you need to seek out the help of others to help you get to where you’re going. If so, determine who that might be, possibly the help of your spouse, a business colleague, a Life Coach, etc.  Make the choice that you will not give up before you reach your goal. “If you hear a voice within you say “you cannot paint,” then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.” – Vincent van Gogh

Consider:

Never tell yourself or let anyone else tell you, you cannot do something. You alone conclude the limitations that you set upon yourself.
If you want to do something, just do it. Get rid of negative influences in your life and destroy your inner critic that tells you that something is impossible for you to attain. You are gifted, and you can do anything you want to do.

Try this exercise: With pen and paper in hand, draw a line down the middle of the paper. On one side list the things that exist in your life that are pulling you towards the negative, on the other side, list the things that pull you towards the positive. See how they compare, which one outweighs the other? Now take a second sheet of paper and make a list of positive steps you can take to eradicate the negative influences you have listed—then get to work knocking those points off your list, one step at a time.

“Let go of your attachment to being right, and suddenly your mind is more open. You're able to benefit from the unique viewpoints of others, without being crippled by your own judgment.” – Ralph Marston

When we hold on tightly to our own viewpoints and sense of being right, we miss so much that we could otherwise receive from others by being open to their ideas and views. Our lives can be enriched by other people’s experiences and lessons learned, through being open to their unique opinions and perspective.

Do you welcome other’s opinions, or do you limit yourself by holding on to your way of seeing things as the “only” right outlook? Each person is unique and has gone through unique life experiences. How enriching it would be if we would accept to receive more from others’ wisdom!

Quote of the day:

“As I started to picture the trees in the storm, the answer began to dawn on me. The trees in the storm don't try to stand up straight and tall and erect. They allow themselves to bend and be blown with the wind. They understand the power of letting go. Those trees and those branches that try too hard to stand up strong and straight are the ones that break. Now is not the time for you to be strong, Julia, or you, too, will break.” –Julia Butterfly Hill

Consider:

Sometimes, true strength is staying flexible and flowing with the circumstances; it’s letting go when situations beyond your reach change. If your character and your spirit are planted on solid ground, you will not be blown away. You can stay firm in your convictions and your values, yet bendable and free to go with the flow when necessary, at the same time.

Do you sometimes feel like certain things in your life are too difficult? Are you having a hard time accepting some new situation or conditions in your life? Take a moment to think about it. Ask yourself if there is anything you need to let go of in order to bend and flow with the circumstances, then you’ll find the needed strength to carry on.

“I discovered I always have choices and sometimes it's only a choice of attitude”.  – Judith M. Knowlton

Consider:

We can’t always control our circumstances, but we can control our choices, even if that choice is about changing our attitudes to the particular circumstance. The attitudes we have towards everything in life is one of the most powerful choices we have. Our attitude can change our outlook on any given thing or person, it can change us and the way we feel and it can change the outcome of a situation.

Think about your reactions and your attitudes towards your day and towards all that is part of life. Is it uplifting? Is it hopeful? Does your attitude show defeat, or does it work towards a solution to the problem? If not, make a conscious effort to change your attitude into a positive one and eventually having the right attitude will become a habit and a part of you.

Wishing you all the best,

Quote of the day:

“Any change, any loss, does not make us victims. Others can shake you, surprise you, disappoint you, but they can't prevent you from acting, from taking the situation you're presented with and moving on. No matter where you are in life, no matter what your situation, you can always do something. You always have a choice and the choice can be power.” – Blaine Lee

Consider:

Sometimes, it is easier to blame circumstances, problems, or even other people for our situation, instead of taking action ourselves to change it. However, if we truly want to change and to move forward, if we sincerely desire to rise above our surrounding circumstances, we can. It is possible! While present circumstances may bring temporary limitations, if we’ll focus on the vision of “we can change this” and we keep our eyes ahead on the goal to bring about change, then if we’ll get busy doing something to work towards that change, eventually change will become our reality.

Happy changing,

Coach Dana

Quote of the day:

It is one of the most beautiful compensations of life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Consider:

The natural law of kindness is just as definite as the law of gravity; what goes up will eventually come back down. When we sincerely help someone else, we also benefit. Somehow, somewhere, sometime, acts of kindness always come back to us. It may be through receiving appreciation from the one we helped, or through receiving an unexpected blessing, or simply through the satisfaction of knowing we did the right thing.

Helping others isn’t always about some big project we undertake. Showing kindness can be as simple as giving a smile, a pat on the back, a hug, or an encouraging word to someone who is down; it could be lending a listening ear, or passing on some information that you know will benefit another; or using your skills and talents to help someone in need. One thing is certain, whether you show kindness in big ways or small, it always reaps positive results.
Why not look around and see how you can spread some kindness today—then put action to your vision and see what comes back to you!

Wishing you the best,

Quote of the day:

"A happy ending depends on where you stop your story." – Orson Welles

Consider:

The following quote from an unknown author goes right along with the words above from Orson Welles: "Everything will be okay in the end, and if it's not okay, it's not the end yet." If you find yourself stuck in a bad situation--don’t give up hope as the end hasn’t happened yet!

Are there things in your life that you have given up on before the “end of the story”?  Think about what you can do to change your situation and then go find your happy ending.

I wish you all the best,

Coach Dana

Quote of the day:

“If you have made mistakes, even serious mistakes, you may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call ‘failure’ is not the falling down, but the staying down." – Mary Pickford

Consider:

Mistakes are common human occurrences which happen to every one of us during the course of our lives. As we learn to navigate our way through them we learn to use our humble muscles of perseverance. A true story is relayed of a software executive who made a costly mistake for his firm. The CEO of the company called him into his office. The downtrodden software executive carried in his resignation letter and presented it to the CEO knowing that he deserved to be fired. The CEO asked him why he was handing him such a letter, and instead told him the firm’s investment and training in him was deserved, he wouldn’t lose his job because of that one mistake, albeit costly.

Have you made a mistake that left you in despair and feeling as though it is the end of the road? If so, stop and forgive yourself, realize that everyone makes mistakes. Then, if necessary, seek guidance and help in how to correct your mistake and pick up and carry on.

Wishing you all the best,

Quote of the day:

“The measure of a life, after all, is not its duration, but its donation." – Corrie ten Boom

Consider:

Corrie ten Boom’s story is a triumphant one. A young woman imprisoned by the Nazi’s in WW II for helping Jew’s to escape. Corrie was put in a concentration camp and endured extreme cruel conditions that would have killed most people, yet in the midst of that great adversity something clicked within her spirit which caused her to shine with brilliant love to pour out comfort and hope to her fellow prisoners. Years later when released, Corrie’s life blossomed even further in a continual ministry of reconciliation and healing post WW II. She gave above and beyond to others during her life on earth, even through the worst circumstances.

Do you spend more time thinking about how you can get more for yourself than you do thinking about what you can do for others? Try taking 10 minutes today and write down five ways in which you can give, to help  enrich others lives and bring them hope. Remember, your giving needn’t be through giving material things alone, it could be through little acts of love and kindness that go a long, long way to make someone’s day.

Happy giving,

Coach Dana

Quote of the day:

“Never attack a problem without also presenting a solution.” – Jim Rohn

Consider:

It’s so easy to see the problems that surround us.  Anyone can recognize them and point them out, but the true challenge is to come up with a solution to the problem. You can increase your value in the work-place by contributing with a solution. You may not always come up with the ultimate solution to the trouble, but by contributing your ideas, you will be valued for someone who helps to carry the load, instead of watching from the sidelines pointing out problems and faults.

Whenever you see a problem, determine to contribute with a possible solution, even if only the beginning of an idea; and others will appreciate and value you more for giving it a go towards helping them to tackle the load.

Happy contributing,

Coach Dana
